I shouldn’t
laugh, really. It’s only a five pound difference in base weight and most of
that comes from his pack. My Z-Rest is shorter than his, and while I’m bringing
a rain jacket that doubles as a wind vest, he’s bringing a rain jacket and a
vest. I did manage to convince him to leave his synthetic sleeping bag behind
and take a down one instead. That alone saved him about a pound and a half. Not
that a heavy load ever slowed him down or anything. I tease him about his pack
being so big (4700ci and roughly 5 pounds) but the fact is, he loves it and
finds it 100% comfortable whether it’s packed full or barely packed at all.
Comfort is the most important thing. Though the part of me that hates to be
wrong is still betting he swaps out for a lighter/smaller pack by
